History

Where it all began..

I have loved creating art since I could hold a pencil, my main creations at that time involved animals, particularly lions and dogs (for whatever reason!)

I took a hiatus from art to pursue university and it promptly fell off my radar. I reignited my passion for the arts a few years later when I was travelling and became obsessed once more. Eventually I started offering pet portraits and selling my creations, dreaming of being a full-time artist.

I quickly realised that as much as I loved creating art, it was a pretty lonely hobby! A lot of the joy I derived from creating art was from sharing it with others.

With a drive to share the joy I get from the creative process Van Gogh & Vino was born!

My partner Jason, although not the arty farty type was on board with the vision to create wine and paint evenings in Whangarei that were available to everyone, regardless of skill level.

Creating art and showing others how to be creative is extremely nourishing for my soul, my favourite part is when people that haven’t picked up a brush since primary school are astonished with what they can achieve with a little guidance.

I always say that the main goal is to enjoy the process, expressing creativity without fear of judgement is the best feeling in the world. The more you surrender and detatch from this outcome-driven world to purely enjoy the process, the more free you become. I believe everyone is creative and we as humans need to hold as much space as we can to pursue creativity and to share that with others.
